Welcome to the JoJo Aquatics Blog

Hello, and welcome to the JoJo Aquatics blog! We are a small freshwater aquatics shop based in Key West, Florida – the only town in the country where you can step out the back door and see tropical reef fish in the wild while you stock a freshwater tank inside. We started JoJo Aquatics because we love freshwater fishkeeping and we wanted to ship the kinds of healthy, well-acclimated fish we wished we could find when we were getting started.

This blog is where we will share what is happening at the shop, what we are learning, and what we hope is useful for fellow hobbyists.

What we just launched

If you are visiting for the first time, the biggest news is our new Knowledge Base. We just published a set of in-depth care guides that cover everything we wish a new aquarist had handed us on day one. They include:

  • A complete Care Guides hub with detailed species profiles for every fish, shrimp, and snail we currently stock
  • A long-form Water Chemistry guide covering pH, hardness, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, the nitrogen cycle, and how to keep parameters stable
  • A practical Shipping & Acclimation guide that walks through what we do on our end before shipping, what to do the moment a box arrives, and how to drip-acclimate every species we sell

The whole thing lives under our Knowledge Base hub. It is built so you can read it linearly, jump in from a species you are researching, or treat it as a reference for whichever question is on your mind today.

Why a blog?

The care guides are evergreen reference material. The blog is for things that move – new arrivals, breeding projects in the back room, seasonal shipping advisories, restock news, and our own working notes as we figure out tricky setups. We post when we have something worth saying, not on a schedule. If you want to hear about restocks before they sell out (and a lot of what we carry sells fast), the blog is the place to check in.

What we focus on

We are a freshwater-only shop. We carry small, peaceful community fish (Neon Tetras, Adolfo’s Corys), nano-tank invertebrates (Blue Dream Shrimp, Apple Snails), dwarf cichlids (German Blue and Black Rams), centerpiece schoolers (Boesemani Rainbowfish), labyrinth fish (White Veiltail Bettas), livebearers (Red Tiger Endlers), and angelfish (Koi Angels). Most of our stock is bred or raised through a network of small US and Florida-based suppliers we trust. We do not stock wild-caught fish unless we know the collector and the import chain, and we are happy to tell you the provenance of anything you ask about.

Get in touch

If you have ever wanted to email a fish shop directly with a question about your setup before you order, this is that shop. We read every message at help@jojoaquatics.com, usually within a day, sometimes longer if the boat is out. Tell us your tank, your water, your stocking, and what you are trying to do, and we will tell you whether what you are eyeing is the right next addition.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for caring enough about your fish to look this stuff up. That, more than anything, is what makes a good aquarist.
