Every fish on this page lives in our racks here in Key West before it ships to you. We run a small fish room on purpose, so we only list species we actually keep, condition, and know how to ship. That means honest stock counts, captive-bred fish wherever we can source them, and a Live Arrival Guarantee on everything that leaves the building. We pack and ship livestock early in the week so your order travels fast and spends as little time in transit as possible.
This is the step most new keepers skip, and it causes more losses than anything else. The fish in this collection fall into two water-chemistry camps, and mixing the camps forces one group to live outside the range it wants.
Soft, slightly acidic water suits our blackwater and Amazonian species: the Neon Tetra, Adolfo’s Cory, the German Blue Ram and German Black Ram, and the Koi Angelfish. These do best around a neutral-to-acidic pH with low to moderate hardness.
Harder, alkaline water suits our livebearers and rainbowfish: the Red Tiger Endlers, the Alpha Swordtail Albino Red, and the Boesemani Rainbow Fish. These want a higher pH and more mineral content in the water.
The White Veiltail Betta is the flexible one. It adapts to a wide range and lives as a solo centerpiece rather than in a group.
If you are not sure which camp your tap water falls into, read our water chemistry guide before you order. Stable water in the right range beats chasing perfect numbers every time.
Schooling fish need numbers to feel secure and show their best color. Keep Neon Tetras and Adolfo’s Cory in groups of at least six to eight, and keep Endlers in a small group as well. A single centerpiece fish anchors the tank: a betta, an angelfish, or a pair of rams all fill that role.
Tank size guides the rest. Endlers and a solo betta suit a planted nano tank in the five to ten gallon range. Neon Tetras want a ten gallon or larger so the school has room to move. German Rams and the Koi Angelfish are happiest in a stable, mature, well-planted tank with established biology, so they are a better fit for a tank that has been running a while than for a brand-new setup.
If this is an early tank, a school of Neon Tetras and a few Red Tiger Endlers give you movement and color with forgiving care. A Betta makes a striking solo tank. The German Blue Ram is one of the most rewarding dwarf cichlids you can keep, but it wants warm, stable water and a keeper who watches parameters, so treat it as a step up rather than a first fish. Every species here has its own care guide in our Knowledge Base with parameters, tankmates, and feeding.
We pack livestock by hand the morning it ships, after fasting the fish to keep the water clean in transit. Bags go double-bagged with tank water and oxygen, into an insulated box, and we check the weather on both ends before anything leaves. Orders ship early in the week to avoid weekend holdups. When your fish arrive, drip acclimate them slowly and quarantine new arrivals before adding them to an established tank. Our shipping and acclimation guide walks through the whole process.
Neon Tetras, Red Tiger Endlers, and a single Betta are forgiving starting points. They tolerate a range of conditions and are easy to feed. Dwarf cichlids like the German Blue Ram are rewarding but want warm, stable water, so they suit a keeper with a little experience and a mature tank.
Not all of them, because they split into soft-water and hard-water groups. Tetras, corys, rams, and angelfish prefer softer, slightly acidic water, while Endlers, swordtails, and Boesemani Rainbows prefer harder, alkaline water. Build your tank around one camp. See our water chemistry guide for help reading your own water.
Add fish in small batches, not all at once, so your filter’s biology can keep up. Schooling species like tetras and Endlers should go in as a group of six or more rather than one or two at a time, since small numbers leave them stressed.
Yes. Every order ships with a Live Arrival Guarantee. Follow the claim steps on that page, including the required photos, if anything arrives wrong.
We ship early in the week so livestock is not sitting in a facility over the weekend, and we hold orders during extreme heat or cold until it is safe to travel. Full details are in our shipping and acclimation guide.
