Overview
Red Tiger Endlers are a striking colour form of Poecilia wingei, a livebearer closely related to the common guppy. Mature males carry bold black tiger-stripe bars over a fiery red-orange body. Hardy, peaceful, easy to feed, and endlessly active — an excellent step beyond basic community fish and a favourite for nano and low-tech planted tanks.
Natural Habitat
The species originates in the warm, hard, mineral-rich coastal waters and lagoons of the Paria Peninsula in north-eastern Venezuela. The Red Tiger is a selectively bred colour form developed in the hobby.
Tank Setup
A planted nano tank with open swimming space suits them. A 10-gallon (~40 L) is the realistic minimum and a 20-gallon holds a thriving colony of 12–20 without crowding. Floating plants give females somewhere to drop fry away from hungry tankmates.
Diet
An undemanding omnivore. A quality micro-pellet or crushed flake daily, with frozen daphnia, baby brine shrimp, or cyclops two or three times a week, brings out the best colour. They are not picky and rarely refuse food.
Temperament & Tankmates
Completely peaceful and very active. Good with other hard-water livebearers, small rasboras, White Cloud Mountain Minnows, peaceful Corydoras, and shrimp. Keep two or three females per male, or run a male-only tank, and avoid fancy guppies if you want to keep the line pure.
Approximate Shipping Size
