Overview
The German Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi) is a peaceful dwarf cichlid prized for its kaleidoscope of blue, red, yellow, and black. A genuine centerpiece fish that stays small, it pairs beautifully with discus and other warm-water community species.
Natural Habitat
Native to the warm, soft, slow-moving waters of the Orinoco basin savannahs of Venezuela and Colombia, among leaf litter, roots, and dense marginal vegetation.
Tank Setup
A 20-gallon (~75 L) tank with fine sand, gentle flow, driftwood, and broad-leaved plants suits a pair. Rams are warmth-lovers and appreciate stable, well-filtered water with plenty of cover and sight-lines broken up by decor.
Diet
An omnivore that takes quality sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp, and daphnia. Feed small portions several times a day for best colour and condition.
Temperament & Tankmates
Peaceful but best with calm companions: tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, and other dwarf cichlids given space. A bonded pair will defend a small territory when spawning. Excellent dither-fish for a discus tank.
