Overview
The White Veiltail Betta is a classic — a long-finned Betta splendens with the elegance of a wedding dress and the personality of a small dragon. The lack of pigment makes their behaviour easy to read, with blushes of colour rising when they are excited. A peaceful, intelligent centrepiece for a properly set-up tank.
Natural Habitat
Domesticated from wild Betta splendens of the slow, warm, shaded waters, rice paddies, and shallow pools of Thailand and neighbouring Southeast Asia.
Tank Setup
A real, heated, filtered tank — five gallons (~20 L) minimum, ten is better. Decorate softly with smooth driftwood, silk or live plants, and rounded rocks; long veiltail fins tear on sharp decor. Floating plants suit their surface-resting habit, and a tight lid is essential because bettas jump.
Diet
A carnivore. Feed a quality betta pellet as the staple, supplemented two or three times a week with frozen bloodworm, daphnia, brine shrimp, or mysis. Two or three pellets per meal is plenty; fast one day a week to prevent bloat.
Temperament & Tankmates
Aggressive toward other bettas — never house two males together. The safest setup is a single betta in a species tank. If you want a community, choose peaceful, drably-coloured fish such as Ember Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, Kuhli Loaches, Otocinclus, peaceful Corydoras, and snails, and watch closely for the first week.
